Contest Announcement & SIERAAD! Jewellery Art Fair 3-6 November 2011, Amsterdam

September 27, 2011 | No Comments

SIERAAD ART FAIR 10th edition, from 3 through 6 November 2011 at the Westergasfabriek Amsterdam.

In a period of ten years this event has grown from some simple presentations to a high-quality event where jewellery is presented in a very professional way in a very special ambience. A development for them to be proud of! Not only for the fair but most definitely for the artists who, after their professional training as jewellery artists, had the courage to develop themselves as small independent businessmen, all the time working on innovation, exploring concepts, pursuing their own style and during the event using one-on-one contacts with their target group to develop themselves further.

In cooperation with AVRO and Premsela SIERAAD has made the first series of ‘Makers and Wearers’ which will be broadcast in October. The first series of three instalments will be broadcast in ” Kunstuur”, every Saturday between 17.00 and 18.00 hours on Nederland 2 and there will be a rerun the following Saturday morning on Nederland 1. Three instalments with double portraits of contemporary jewellery designers versus buyers/collectors of their work.
Prominent contemporary jewellery designers allow the viewer a look behind the scenes and tell us why they make these wearable objects. Keen buyers/collectors show and tell which piece of jewellery they bought from a particular artist and what meaning these pieces have for them.

SIERAAD: ‘Wearers and Makers’ is the first sampling of a branch of the applied arts that is doing increasingly well internationally, just as Dutch design is. Modern and contemporary jewellery design is a relatively young member of the age-old family of fine arts. It has been around for little more than a century. The way in which contemporary (Dutch) jewellery artists voice their comments on current events is proof that the growth curve of this relatively young specialty of contemporary jewellery design has reached maturity.

The two academies presenting their students this year at SIERAAD! will be “Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen’, Juweelontwerp en Edelsmeedkunst Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen, and “Ecole supérieure des Arts décoratifs de Strasbourg (ESADS)”. So, take care you don’t miss this event!
