“The Immortal Alexander The Great” at Hermitage Amsterdam

February 2, 2011 | 2 Comments

The exhibition “The Immortal Alexander The Great”, on display until 18 March 2011, shows 350 masterpieces. Amongst others the famous Gonzaga cameo, a large number of beautiful other cameos and intaglio seal rings, golden objects, army attributes, paintings, tapestry and great information about the expedition he made  with his army, consisting of 50.000 soldiers with whom he conquered Syria, Egypt, Persia, Bactria & India. Part of the route he travelled  later became part of the known “Silk Road”.

Next to this beautiful exhibition at The Hermitage, which I really highly recommend to everyone visiting Amsterdam, there is also another exhibition running about Alexander the Great at The Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam. This exhibition is called “Alexander’s Legacy- Greeks in Egypt”, which is on display until 20 March 2011.
At The Britsh Museum in London opens from 3 March onwards the exhibition “Afghanistan; Crossroads of the Ancient World”, displaying surviving treasures from the National Museum of Afghanistan. For more information, plaese visit the site of The British Museum.
